Instrument (Part Four)
O God,
Make me an instrument of your compassion.
Don’t let me be hard-hearted toward people
living on the margins and in the shadows.
Don’t let me be hard-headed about trying
to understand other people’s predicaments.
Don’t let me be close-fisted when it comes
to sharing what I have in order to help.
Fill me with your compassion.
Fill me with compassion that
sees people as you see them.
Fill me with compassion that
is moved by people’s hurts.
Fill me with compassion that
gives self away for others’ sake.
Fill me with the kind of compassion that
comes from having you in my heart.
Make me an instrument of your compassion …
