A Prayer for Tuesday, January 22, 2013

O God,

Protect us from the illusion that we know ourselves so well that we always know why we do what we do; protect us from spiritual laziness that assumes that our motives are always sound.

At the same time, increase our awareness of our motives so that we will better understand what drives us; increase our ability to discern whether our motives are in line with our identity as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Form and shape us so that our main motives will be to love you and to love others; form and shape us so that our actions will be driven by those motives.

Keep us constantly aware that why we do what we do is just as important as—if not more important than—what we do.
