A Prayer for Tuesday, June 3, 2014

Forty-Fifth Day of Easter

O God,

Give us the grace and strength
to put to death those
attitudes and motives
that cause us to
dehumanize others and,
in dehumanizing them,
to lessen our own humanity.

Give us the grace and strength
to put to death
lust,
envy,
greed,
jealousy,
hate,
prejudice,
judgmentalism,
vengeance,
self-righteousness,
and
apathy.

When, despite our best efforts,
such dehumanizing
attitudes and motives
show some life,
give us the grace and strength
to hit them again.

And this time,
let it be
a real
death blow …

Amen.
